The department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence has a in-between Mediterranean and mountain climate.
These advantages are best
seldom rain for a mountain department,
High temperatures during daytime of the summer
And lots of sunshine.

In addition, the low humidity and lack of industrial smoke contribute to a remarkable brightness of the air.
On the Castellane area - and the southern Alps in general - the temperatures are very pleasant during the day, with a summer heat that has nothing to envy to the Mediterranean coast, although it is tempered by the altitude and the valley breeze. One will however be surprised by the rather cool night temperatures.

The other characteristic of the Mediterranean rainfall regime is extremely irregular. Rains occur in a small number of days (70 to 80 per year in the south-west, 90 to 110 on the hills), very unevenly distributed over the year. A long period of summer drought usually succeeds a very wet autumn. In addition, from mid-June to mid-August, rain falls almost exclusively in the form of thunderstorms.
Finally, the winters are very cold and snow is not uncommon, however, without excess.
